Jewellers insurance news - Shop owner foils armed robbery
A jewellers insurance customer has been branded a "have a go hero" by newspapers and community figures after fighting off armed robbers at his upmarket shop in West Yorkshire.
Amazingly, the shop owner's disarming of one of the men ensured that he will not have to make a jewellers insurance claim for loss of stock; his shop though was described as "smashed up", so claims for property damage and business interruption are expected to follow.
He explains, "I got the sword off him and stabbed him with it. There were two offenders in a car who drove up and got out and threatened me with a samurai sword and an axe.
"I decided that this wasn't on and attacked them. One lunged at me and I got the sword off the guy and started hitting and stabbing them with it until they fled.
"They didn't get a penny, all they got was a stab in the back and hit around the head."
And, despite his ordeal, the jeweller says that he has no intention of changing career, promising to reopen his shop immediately and, presumably, inform his jewellers insurance company of the incident.
He also sent out a defiant message to the robbers, saying, "I think it is important that you stand up for yourself. This is my livelihood, this is what supports my family and this is what I have worked for since I was 18.
"We want to send out the message that we are not going to tolerate this for a second and that we are willing to protect our business."
