Jewellers insurance news - Robbery to result in theft and property damage claim

A jeweller from Queensway in London has been left grateful for his jewellers insurance in more ways than one after his shop became the victim of an overnight robbery this week.

Although police are yet to catch the thieves, CCTV footage shows two men using a sledgehammer to smash the glass of the shop window.

However, their perseverance failed to be rewarded with a Hollywood heist; they succeeded only in taking two watches with a total value of less than £200.

The businessman explained how the details of his jewellers insurance policy helped prevent the theft from being much worse. "They must have been young or stupid because we never keep anything of great value in the windows overnight. The terms of our insurance means we are not allowed," he told his local newspaper.

However, he will still have to make a property damage claim on his jewellers insurance as it is expected that the cost of making speedy repairs to the shop's reinforced glass windows will reach a significant four-figure sum.

"We can't open at all today until we can make the shop secure again. Today will be a complete loss but we will definitely open tomorrow," he said.
